Weight Loss Before and After: I Lost 187 Pounds In Only 15 Months

During the holiday season of 2010, I was shopping with my two daughters and happened to catch a glimpse of my reflection in a mirror. I did not recognize myself….I was huge and I was mortified.

I also had been to my cardiologist (I have three heart conditions and was born with a Pectus excavatum or funnel chest) and was told that I was playing Russian roulette with my health. I decided then and there I was sick of being fat and had become a terrible role model for my girls – at the time ages 11 and 4.

My dad died at 42 from cancer and I was turning 42 in 2012 and I didn’t want to risk heart failure and/or death with a husband and two young children. I didn’t want my father’s legacy to be my own and that is exactly what I was facing.

I started my weight loss journey on January 9, 2011 weighing 366.4 lbs, using Weight Watchers and a treadmill at home on my own. After losing 45lbs by April, 2011 and watching the Biggest Loser, I decided that I needed to hire a personal trainer – I was doing good on my own but with a total of 187 lbs to lose, I knew I was going to need help and I wanted to tone myself as I lost the weight. I also wanted to avoid having to have skin reduction surgery.

I joined a local gym, at a friend’s suggestion, and it was by pure luck that I was matched up with one of their personal trainers, Eric Gross. I have never regretted my decision to hire him to guide me on this continuing journey. From the moment we met he put me at ease, did not make me feel embarrassed for being so badly out of shape and truly seemed to care about me as a person. I started working with Eric at the end of April weighing 322 lbs and with 56% body fat.

I had set a goal of losing a total of 187 lbs in 15 months – I wanted to hit 179lbs by April 15, 2012. Eric never once discouraged me or made me feel this goal was unattainable. I immediately trusted Eric and started following his plans and saw immediate results. Within the first six months of working with Eric, I had lost over 87lbs (total of 132 lbs) and gained muscle, strength and most of all confidence. I was starting to see the “old” me when I looked in the mirror.

Eric is extremely motivating, caring, positive, kind and in general a great person! I am proud to say we have become friends and he has become a huge part of my life and my family’s! Not only is he a certified trainer but he helps me with nutrition education, meal planning, and plans my weight lifting/cardio workouts for my “off” days. I have learned excellent tips for eating healthy and how to balance a healthier lifestyle and exercise. I have also discovered that I enjoy how hard I can push myself and want to do my best when I have my twice a week sessions with Eric!

By October 31, 2011 I weighed 235 lbs with 36% body fat and by February 14, 2012 I was less than 200 lbs (199 lbs) for the first time in twelve plus years. By this point, I had lost 167 lbs in a little over 13 months.

With a lot of dedication and hard work and the help of Eric, I hit 179 lbs, my goal weight, on April 9th, 2012 – exactly 15 months from the day I started Weight Watchers and 1 week ahead of my goal date of April 15th. I went from a size 26/28 to a 10/12. I also went from a Morbidly Obese BMI to a Normal BMI and I was cured of the Sleep Apnea I had. Eric and I were partners in this together and he was there for me whenever I was frustrated or disappointed with myself. Eric expected me to perform at my best and I tried to never let him down!!

I owe Eric Gross a huge Thank You – he has helped to keep me focused and has given a healthier me back to my family, that is something you cannot put a price tag on and I will always be grateful!

I am proud to say, I have kept my weight off for almost one year and still incorporate all of the tips I learned from Eric. I also still workout with him 2 times a week and follow his exercise plans on the days we do not meet. I will always have to watch myself and not let my weight get out of control again – I realize this and accept it.

I never could have done this without Eric. His belief in me, allowed me to believe in myself – even when outside influences tried to sabotage my results. Eric held me accountable for my performance and my outside actions and was the mirror I needed to clearly see myself. Losing 187 lbs has been more mentally draining than the physical aspects. I like to tell people the weight loss was the easy part, the weight stabilization has been much tougher, but so worth it. It truly was a journey and will forever be the tie that binds Eric and me together. I owe him so much….How do you thank someone who changed a broken person for the better? You cannot. He was, is and will always be my partner in this fight for my health.

Nope. A simple Thank You does not do that justice. He once said he was like a proud father on the day I hit my goal weight. And that sums it up – Eric Gross helped me to be reborn.
